I promise I’m not starting a fight, but what’s your problem?
I want to know what your biggest problem is, in your business.
You see, we have become so accustomed to blaming the economy, the COL crisis, the weather, the parking charges, the taxes… that we maybe don’t look a little closer at where the bigger problem lies.
And it’s often looking back at us in the mirror.
Lemme explain…
From my experience – which is extensive in this industry, as I have been coaching salon owners for nearly 12 years now – most salon owners have the same problem…
And it’s not;
❌ A lack of knowledge
❌ A lack of skill
❌ A lack of passion
❌ A lack of desire
It’s more often a lack of the right identity.
It’s a well versed story…
Salon therapist (or equivalent) becomes salon owner but still acts like a therapist…
The situation changes, but the identity doesn’t.
The role stays the same but the job gets harder….
Because not only are they still acting as a therapist, but they have to do all the business-y stuff too.
Who wants that?
Well, actually, a business owner wants that.
At least, they do if they want a successful and profitable salon.
The industry message has always been “work hard, fill the diary and you’ll be successful”.
But that advice is out of date.
Likewise that…
❌ Exhaustion leads to success…
❌ Or that a full diary is the goal…
❌ Or that just being good at your job will mean the business works…
It’s all well out of date.
And yes, maybe some of that was true once.
But it doesn’t work now.
You’ve been trained to make people look and feel good – and my goodness you’re good at it.
But you’ve more likely never been trained to lead a business.
Most salon owners stay stuck in a loop:
Overworking…
Avoiding their numbers…
Feeling guilty delegating…
Telling themselves “I’ll sort it tomorrow”…
But things don’t calm down…
Because the business can only grow to the level of the identity of the salon owner running it.
And if you still see yourself as;
“Just a therapist”
“Not good with money”
“Not business minded”
Well, then your business will keep behaving like a job.
Not a scalable asset.
Here’s the truth…
The success of a salon business comes entirely from your attitude towards it and your attitude towards yourself.
If you believe you have to hustle, book out, do barely profitable treatments, work the hours dictated by clients and deliver treatments you don’t enjoy….
Well, that’ll be your reality and you’ll stay stuck.
And if you choose that path, then the identity problem sticks.
But if you evolve your identity, it shifts.
And when you shift;
- From dealing with the business hands on – to managing the business head on
- From being reactive – to being proactive
- From operator – to owner
Then the magic happens.
And that magic doesn’t happen with another spreadsheet.
It happens at a subconscious level.
That’s why I work on a business level AND a subconscious level – and that’s why we get such good results for our salon CEOs.
Want to know more?
I have an new webinar which will help you understand the shift.
And remember….
You’re not behind.
You’re evolving.
And this is the moment you start leading.
