As you know I’m a big fan of reading books.
There’s a pretty good chance that you are too.
Whether it’s a business book to help me learn the latest skill or a slushy novel by the pool there is something special about become absorbed in a book.
More often than not for me it’s a great sense of escapism; turn off the TV and the phone and drift away in a good book.
But the escapism and increased knowledge are only two of the huge string of benefits of reading regularly –
- it reduces stress
- improves your concentration and focus
- improves your writing skills
- stimulates the mind
And the list goes on and on.
But there’s a problem.
I hardly ever have the time to read these days. I have a pile of books on my desk at home which I want to read but the pile just keeps on growing.
It’s only when I am on holiday or travelling that I can get stuck in and try and make a dent in my pile.
You see there is work, family life, friends and so many other things to juggle. Finding five minutes peace and quiet in my house can be difficult with a one year old puppy charging about, let alone a few hours.
Sound familiar?
Recently, however that all changed. My hubby introduced me to audio books, and more specifically www.audible.com.
You may have heard of them as they are part of Amazon.
So they have a none-too-shabby 200,000 titles to choose from.
Yes, 200,000!
They have everything from thrillers to romance title and for me, business and marketing to self improvement.
Oh, and everything in between of course. Something you want to learn more about? You can bet there have been lots of books written by experts on those very subjects just waiting for you.
But the real benefits I’ve found are that now I can listen to my favourite books when I couldn’t read before. They are downloaded via the app onto my iPhone, iPad and Kindle.
I can then enjoy them in the car, when I’m at the gym or even just when walking around.
The hubby clocks up a book a week simply by listening to them whilst walking to gym, instead of listening to music.
Imagine the difference it could make to you from reading an extra book every week!

I did, and I’ve not looked back. Now, where are my headphones…
