I know what you’re thinking.   My marketing calendar for 2015?  2014 isn’t over yet!

Well as much as that is true, it is important to be thinking about 2015 right now, assuming you’ve not got it planned out already.

And just in case you haven’t, then here are a few pointers to help you along the way.

Firstly, however, a note as to why it’s important to think about this planning right now, considering your festive promotions are probably still running.

As the great Benjamin Franklin once said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

And he was right.

You simply must plan our your promotions and your marketing in advance so that everything is thought through, goes out on time and isn’t rushed through at the last minute – or worst of all never gets done at all.

Just as you should plan out your social media in advance (read my post about this here), the same goes for the rest of your marketing strategy.

You should ideally be looking to schedule a promotion at least once a month.

By doing so you are creating a buzz about your business, getting people talking about you and giving them an excuse to do business with you.

Remember it is up to us to remind clients to come and do business with us – and lots of them will require constant reminders!

However, they won’t at all mind receiving these reminders providing your offers are interesting and relevant.

“But I Don’t Know What To Do For My Promotion!”

Good news.

Within reason, your promotions can be based around pretty much anything that you like.

Of course you’re probably already doing promotions for Valentines’s Day, Mother’s Day, Easter and Christmas (or at least you should be!) but you should also consider giving some of your promotions a little more thought, effort and creativity.

Remember, you want to stand out from the crowd, and everyone does a Valentine’s Day promotion.

But does everyone do something for the Queen’s birthday?

What about National Popcorn Day? (No, seriously, on January 19th).

How about National Carrot Cake Day?  (February 3rd, if you love carrot cake).

Perhaps your child or pet’s birthday?

You can find a day for any day you wish and you’ll make yourself stand out from the crowd.   Which is what you want.

I Have My Days, Now What?!

Once you’ve worked out what you want to promote, find a way to link it with a service or good that you offer.

Ideally you want to offer something different each time if at all possible, so that it remains as intriguing as possible for your clients, and so that eventually they look forward to hearing from you and wondering what you’ll come up with next.

As always, you’ve also got to get it out there!   There is no point running a promotion that nobody knows about.

So make sure you’ve given yourself plenty of time to get anything in or prepared to make it go with a bang!

I’d love to hear what you’ve got planned for your marketing calendar or what you’ve seen others do.
